Cheetah Face Painting

Know the Cheetah behind Your Mask

Painting the big cats on someone's face has been a popular face painting design for adults and children alike. The children get a kick out of it, and the adults use it to add to the appeal of their costumes when they attend costume parties. There have been people who have an obsession with cats such as this and actually had their markings permanently tattooed on their facial skin!

First, let's explore some interesting facts about cheetahs. It helps to have information such as this so you can entertain your customers with the stories and history behind their choice of face painting. It may even help someone decide which painting they would like on their face. Sometimes it is hard for a person to make a choice of just one item. They can choose more than one if they get a smaller picture painted upon a cheek, or even more selections painted on their hands and arms as well as their cheeks.

The cheetah is the fastest land animal. It can gain speeds up to 70 miles per hour, but it uses up energy fast. It's one of the smaller cats, weighing an average of 145 pounds. The cheetah has long legs to aid in its graceful agility. It is of the lion family, similar to a jaguar in appearance. Whereas the tiger has stripes, the cheetah has spots. There are what is called 'tear drops', which are black lines of color running alongside its nose on either side from inside the top of the eye down to the tip of the top lip. There is plain yellowish coloring along the nose, white whiskers, and a white chin. There are spots on the forehead, cheeks, and over the eye area.

There are two main types of cheetah-the African and the Asiatic. The cheetah is on the endangered species list. (This could be another idea for your choice of stock. Make a section for animals that are endangered. This would appeal to the animal lovers who want their faces painted!) Included in the two main types of cheetahs, are what I suppose you could call 'sub-types'. Two of these are the Egyptian cheetah and the King Cheetah.

The Egyptian cheetah was said to harness the ancient power of the Gods. Cats were worshipped in Egypt. If someone killed a cat and was caught, they were killed in retribution.

The King Cheetah is found in Rhodesia. The Acinonyx Jubatas are found on the open grasslands of Africa.
Cheetahs have a life span of about 15 years. They chirp to call their cubs. They often lose their food to other predators, such as a pack of hyenas. They hunt in open places, which make it easier for them to pursue their prey.
You can create your cheetah face painting by looking at pictures of the animal and adding your own special touch or coloring. You can choose an exotic type cheetah face or a more simplistic design. Check out books on drawing cats to help perfect your abilities.
