Men's Skin Care Is as Important as
Women's
While it’s true that men like to be perceived as rough and tough –
and certainly NOT in need of beautification – they do like to and need to take care of their skin. Okay, they do
not take care of it the same way – or to the same degree – that women do; but they do take care of it in their own
way, because they need to.
Men’s Skin Care is Different
The skin of men is different because they have higher levels of
testosterone in their blood which makes their skin thicker and consequently less prone to wrinkle with age. Because
of the skin thickness, men’s skin has more sebaceous glands also, which produce more oil. This oil traps the
moisture inside the skin providing natural protection against dryness.
Women regularly need to exfoliate their skin to keep wrinkles at
bay. Men, on the other hand, do not have this need, since they shave daily and their skin is exfoliated in this
process. This and the fact that men’s skin is thicker helps to explain why men look better in their 40s and
50s effortlessly, while women need a lot of care to maintain a youthful look at that age.
Hence, men’s skin care is quite different from women’s in the fact
that it does not need so much attention and pampering. However, men’s skin care includes the same routine, i.e.
cleansing, toning and moisturizing as the women’s. It is heartening to observe that men have started to pay
attention to their facial skin, a thing that was unthinkable some two decades ago, as this would have been
considered unmanly. Macho was synonymous with ruggedness, roughness and carefree looks. Facial skin care was
considered and still is in many parts over the globe, a womanly thing.
Fortunately, the past decade has seen a great change in this trend.
Men are not ashamed to be portrayed as sensitive and suave; being caring, sentimental and aware of their looks is
not considered unmanly or a homosexual trait anymore. This trend is reflected in the sudden boom in men’s skin care
products in the market. There are moisturizers, toners, fairness creams, tanning creams specially formulated for
men and this market segment is increasing daily.
Men’s Skin Care Has Basics And Specialties
Men’s skin care often starts with shaving products because a good,
close shave is usually very important to the appearance of each man. These gels or creams make a significant
difference in the comfort and appearance of a shave. The market for after shave products is great, and the
competition is stiff. A popular after shave can mean a very successful company.
There are special cleansers and toners to help men have great
looking skin, but there are also some great products for men that help to rejuvenate their skin as they age.
These lotions like other products for men are provided for different types of skin. The creams and lotions
for those with dry skin differ from those for customers with oily skin.
Men’s skin care has many of the choices that are provided for
women. There are organic skin care products designed especially for men. These products have the
essential oils that are so important. Aloe vera, chamomile, soy and tea are some of the important ingredients
in the skin care products for men. Men’s skin care products have become so profitable that there is the
possibility that other fine companies will join in the competition.
Beauty salons which cater specially to men have seen a brisk
increase in demand. Men are regularly going for facials, dying their hair and overall paying more attention to
their body and their looks. They are also more aware of their overall health and in particular their eating habits,
which also reflect on their skin and looks.
