Estee
Lauder's Clinique Beauty Products: The First Ever
Dermatologist Developed Skincare
Line
Everyone who
knows about Estee Lauder would confirm that their manufactured
beauty products are among the best in the world in consistence
of quality and over-delivery of their promise. However,
how many people know that the Clinique beauty products is the
first ever skin care line that has been developed by and with a
dermatologist by Estee Lauder?
The History
Of Clinique Beauty Products
It all goes
back to the year 1968 when an article titled 'Can Great Skin Be
Created?' was published by Carol Phillips. In this article
famous Park Avenue dermatologist, Dr Norman Orentreich was
interviewed and what said caught the attention of Estee Lauder.
So impressed was she with Dr. Orentreich's interview that she
offered him an ‘impossible to refuse’ offer to join her
company.
There were two
things that differentiated the Clinique beauty products from
the rest of the Estee Lauder line and other products – (i) it
was created following a new concept which said that care should
be differentiated by the type of skin an individual possesses,
and (ii) it was available at much lower prices than the regular
designer label products which prompted it to be dubbed as the
'budget skincare line' by the various review
sites.
The Clinique
Beauty Products
This product
was based on a basic three-step skin care routine, i.e. step
number one is cleansing with the help of a special (only for
face) soap and toner; step number two consists of exfoliating
with a special exfoliating lotion, and step number three is
moisturizing the skin with their Dramatically Different
Moisturizing Lotion.
The Soap -
three skin types were identified for which the Clinique beauty
products were classified in three categories which made the
facial soap available in three different strengths as well
- extra mild, mild and extra strength. They also have a
great toner.
The exfoliating
lotion – this was available in five varieties – one of them was
simply named Mild, while the rest four types represented
different strengths of cleansing from mild to strongest for
dry, combination dry, combination oily and oily types of
skin.
The aptly named
Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion or DDML as it was
popularly known, was designed to be used by all the skin types.
This product could safely be used as a base under make-up as
well as stand alone application. Needless to mention that
the Clinique beauty products were a hit with the masses and the
trend still continues today.
